Ciotóg has been chosen as Dance Ensemble in Residence in South Dublin County Council, Civic Theatre and Rua Red South Dublin Arts Centre for 2013/2014.
The residency culminates in the premiere of a new dance work by Ríonach Ní Néill. It also marks Ciotóg's ten year anniversary.
The themes of the new piece are informed by Ríonach's work since 2007 with older people and people living with dementia. The work aims to reflect the shifting relationship between a person and their memory, the flux of laying down and retrieving experiences, and what happens when that relationship starts to fragment. It looks at how we share a sense of self collectively, constructing safety nets of belonging, to catch us when memory fails. It is not melancholic. It is in our nature to explore, name, and give function to the world around us. As we forget what things once were, we become intrepid explorers once again of a familiar mystery.
“How are you?”
“I can't remember.”
