Traditional dress of the Arann islands, cótaí dearga were distinctive red skirts, worn with white petticoats, made iconic in West of Ireland art and photography. Postulating a wholly speculative and unprovable link with shamanistic traditions, Na Cótaí Dearga imagines a new traditional mask ceremony for the skirts. Performed against a backdrop of an imperceptibly rotating 360' view of the back of Inis Oírr. Choreographed and performed by Ríonach Ní Néill, with video work commissioned from Paul Kinsella.
Na Cótai Dearga' will be first perfomed at NUI Galway's 'Arts in Action' programme, March 6 2013.
