CIOTÓG
Is compántas léiriúchán ealaíne é Ciotóg, ar bhunaigh Ríonach Ní Néill i 2004. Tá muid lonnaithe i nGaeltacht Chonamara, áit ina mbíonn muid ag crothú saothair i nGaeilge agus i mBéarla. Bíonn muid ag obair le healaíontóirí agus an phobal, maraon le eolaithe, dearthóirí, innealtóirí, ailtirí agus scannánóirí, chun saincheisteanna daonna agus sóisialta a phlé. Bíonn na ceisteanna, cé atá in acmhainn a bheith ag crothú; céard faoi é; cé dó an ealaín mar bhonn faoinár saothair.
Cuimsíonn saothair Ciotóg rince, scannánaíocht, amharc-ealaín, ealaín suiteála, dealbhóireacht, léarscálaíocht agus ealaín rannpháirtíoch. Oibríonn muid i suíomhanna éagsúla, idir amharclainn, pictiúrlainn, dánlainn, agus suíomhanna neamhfhoirmeálta amuigh faoin aeir. Tá duaiseanna idirnáisiúnta bainte amach againn agus tá saothair Ciotóg curtha i láthair ar fud an domhain.
Ciotóg is based in the Conamara Gaeltacht and is dedicated to embracing the spectrum of the arts in the creation of work in Irish and English. Founded by Ríonach Ní Néill in 2004, Ciotóg creates alliances between art-forms, and between professional and non-vocational artists, in order to extend the relationship between art and its community, and to reflect and engage with the multiplicity of human experience.
Ciotóg’s work is inspired by an engagement with human and social issues. We believe that art is a form of civic dialogue, creating spaces for us to engage with one another and our surroundings, provoke reflection and allowing us to imagine ourselves, and others differently.
Ciotóg often chooses to collaborate with professional and lay artists, to situate professional practice within a social context and to exploit the collaborative nature of art through engaging with a wide range of people. It is concerned with the questions, who can create? about what? for whom? whose creativity may be seen?
We are continually seeking new platforms and encounters, and works have ranged from theatre-based, site-specific and virtual to process-based involving long-term engagement with specific populations. Ciotóg’s work has involved collaborations with composers, cinematographers, architects, actors, writers, visual artists, engineers, physicists, professional and lay dancers, rural, suburban and urban dwellers across all ages and has been invited to festivals and venues worldwide.
